Wang Qingsong has not only been seen in major collectives such as those currently at the ICP in New York (밄etween Past and Future. New Photography and Video from China? and in Italy at the GAM in Bologna (밢fficina Asia?curated by Prof. Renato Barilli), he is also the undisputed protagonist in the personal show at the Salon 94 Gallery in New York.
Weng Fen, along with one of his photographs, was the icon of the 밃lors, la Chine??exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, a history-making event part of the China Year in France in 2003, as well as also being one of the most highly-acclaimed photographers at ICP. Of Yang Fudong, one need say no more than he has one of this year뭩 finalists for the Hugo Boss Prize organized by the Guggenheim, that his video was one of the most highly-praised works at the most recent Venice Biennial and that the prices of his works are currently frozen because they are expected to leap to dizzying heights.
But let뭩 go back to the point of departure which is not so much China as a whole, but rather a specific city within a geographical area increasingly in the limelight and of tremendous importance from a number of angles, specifically from an artistic standpoint.
