[번역]Paint your creativity on your sneakers 자신의 운동화, 취향에 맞게 맘대로 디자인하자

Discovering that your taste is just as ordinary as others` can be disheartening when you see people wearing the same clothes or shoes as you.
For those who are dying to express their own character and creativity, adidas Korea Ltd. opened an adicolor studio in Myeong-dong, central Seoul, where consumers themselves can design their running shoes on the spot.
"Adicolor is a concept of colorful individuality. Korean consumers, especially among the younger generation, have been very positive and responsive to adidas Originals," said the president of adidas Korea Ltd., Wolfgang Bentheimer, at the opening of the studio last Tuesday.
At the entrance of the adidas originals shop, a wooden kit including the original white shoes, color paints, brushes and a wooden palette are on display.
"Once customers make up their minds to buy the white shoes, they can either paint whatever they want on the shoes or ask artists to color up the shoes for them," said a staff member.
Three artists from Korea`s top art school Hongik University are available on the corner if you feel hesitant to decorate the shoes yourself.
"Designing your own shoes is like living an artistic life, instead of an ordinary life," said one of the artists, Kim Jong-woo, at a painting corner.
There are six colors: white, red, blue, yellow, green, pink and black. However, the materials vary as consumers can use anything they want - waterproof pens, color spray, a knife and even a screwdriver to punch holes if necessary.
To help consumers get the idea of the White Series, the studio is displaying fifteen pairs that were painted by Korean cultural celebrities on the second floor.
Actor Ji Jin-hee of the big Asian hit drama "Daejanggeum" covered the shoes with brownish rice paper and titled them "Korea in the world." Ji, who majored in visual design, also drew cartoons in the recently released movie "Bewitching Attraction." R&B singer naul, who is currently majoring in art at graduate school, made "Sweet Shoes" with lollipop icons and flowerpots that were previously shown at his earlier exhibition, "Plant the Sweet Things." "Along with the 2006 White Series, we wanted to show something `Korean` through the participation of Korean stars," said Benjamin Hwang, president of office h, a PR firm. 다른 사람들이 자신과 같은 옷이나 신발을 착용하고 있는 모습을 보게 되면 자신의 취향이 남과 별반 다를 바 없다는 사실에 실망할 수 있다.
자신만의 개성과 색깔을 표현하고 싶어하는 사람들을 위해 아디다스코리아는 서울 명동에 아디칼라 스튜디오를 개장했다. 이 곳을 찾는 사람들은 즉석에서 자신의 운동화를 디자인할 수 있다.
“아디칼라 스튜디오는 다채로운 개성을 컨셉으로 한다. 한국 소비자들, 특히 젊은층들이 좋은 반응을 보이고 있고 아디다스 오리지널 제품에 대한 호응도 높다”고 볼프강 벤트하이머 아디다스코리아 사장은 지난주 화요일 스튜디오 개장식에서 말했다.
아디다스 오리지널 숍의 입구에는 오리지널 흰색 운동화을 포함한 목재 도구, 컬러 페인트, 브러시, 목재 팔레트 등이 진열되어 있다.
“일단 고객이 흰색 운동화를 구입하기로 결정하면 그들은 운동화를 자신이 원하는 색으로 페인트하거나 아티스트에게 대신 페인트해줄 것을 요구할 수 있다”고 매장 직원은 말했다.
운동화에 직접 페인트를 칠하기가 망설여질 경우 국내 최고의 미술대학인 홍익대 출신의 아티스트 3명이 매장 구석에서 당신을 기다리고 있다.
“자신의 운동화를 디자인하는 일은 일반적인 삶이 아니라 예술가의 삶을 사는 것과 같습니다”라고 페인팅 코너에서 일하는 아티스트 김종우 씨는 말했다.
흰색, 빨간색, 청색, 노란색, 연두색, 핑크색, 검정색 등 6가지 색상의 페인트가 준비되어 있다. 그러나 방수펜, 컬러 스프레이, 나이프, 심지어 필요시 구멍을 뚫을 수 있는 스크루드라이버 등 고객들은 자신이 원하는 모든 것을 사용할 수 있다.
고객들이 화이트 시리즈에 관한 아이디어를 얻는 것을 돕기 위해 이 스튜디오 2층에는 국내 유명 인사가 페인트 칠한 15켤레의 운동화가 전시되어 있다.
히트 드라마 ‘대장금’의 남자 주인공 지진희씨는 갈색 전통 한지로 덮은 신발에 ‘세계 속의 한국’이란 제목을 붙였다. 시각 디자인을 전공한 지씨는 또 최근 개봉한 영화 ‘은밀한 매력의 여교수’란 영화에서 만화를 그리기도 했다. 현재 대학원에서 디자인을 전공하고 있는 R&B 가수인 나얼은 사탕을 그려넣은 `달콤한 신발`이란 귀여운 운동화를 선보였다.
